A book cover for Liz Moore’s novel, “Heft”. The story is set in Brooklyn, New York, and in autumn-winter season, hence this colour. Could be a bit confusing if you are having spring now! It was a design renewal and this version resulted in a descriptive approach.

Liz Mooreの”Heft”という小説のカバーを制作しました。今回はデザインのリニューアルで、出版元が変わるたびに違うデザインを採用したりするので、同 じ本のカバーに複数のバージョンがあります。今回はブルックリン特有のストーンビルディングと登場人物を入れて…というのが必須条件で、描写的なアプ ローチになりました。一応日本のAmazonからも購入可能です。

Most of the things I have done this year has not been published yet, but finally one is out. It’s from the latest issue of metropolitana. I discovered it on their site too so you can see a bigger version here. I accidentally lost all the data regarding this but hopefully I will see it again in a printed magazine.

Yes I’m late, but I’m loving this refreshing feeling in January.

Still have a couple of published work I haven’t put up here… but today this book is finally out! It’s a quote book on love and marriage, illustrated by me. I did the lettering too, but I did not invent this Japanese-English! Some of the inside illustrations can be seen here.

My print is featured in Good Housekeeping as a suggested Christmas gift. Kind of interesting to see it between a guitar and LEGO! My prints are not signed actually, but other artists’ ones might be.
例のごとく自分では実物未確認シリーズ。イギリスの Good Housekeeping という雑誌のクリスマスギフト特集で、作品のプリントが紹介されました。日本では気軽にアートプリントを買う習慣はないですが、海外では気に入ったアートを買うことは割と普通というところもあります…とても羨ましい土壌です。

Map again. Maybe it’s time to title myself a map maker… anyway, it’s in Croissant magazine. I have drawn small maps of three different areas in Kyoto, showing hidden, beautiful streets to stroll (Above is one example). Super quick work, but I enjoyed paint and brushes, simple colours, and Japanese lettering.
昨日発売のクロワッサン。巻頭の京都特集に3つほど小さなマップを描きました。ちりめん山椒とか、口から仏像が出ている空也上人像を描くとか悩みどころも色々ありましたが、旅したつもりで楽しかったです！

My illustrations are in this beautifully designed booklet, a prospectus of Japanese Literature course at Ferris University. Its cover uses Japanese washi paper, which includes red threads randomly thrown and woven into it. So each booklet has a slightly different face.
My images needed to have a hint of Japaneseness (but it must not be too much) and two colours only. One thing I learnt is that two-colour is not that easier than full-colour!

フェリス女学院大学日本文学科を高校生に紹介する、「フェリス日文ナビ！」という小冊子のイラストを担当しました。日本文学科なので、挿絵には和に行きすぎない日本ぽさを、というお題でした。
冊子のデザイン自体がとても素敵で、表紙に赤い糸を織り込んだ和紙を使っています。そのため一冊ずつ全て模様が違うというのがポイント。細かいところまで凝ってます！

My brain has been melting with this extreme heat and also with continuous juggling… so let’s have a little break with this nice and poetic story on the moon and stars (and night sky illustration by me) in the current issue of FIGARO Japon. My personal favourite parts are these two shooting stars and a building with a sign of ‘star’.
最新号のフィガロジャポン。占星術師 石井ゆかりさんの素敵なコラムに夜空を描きました。背景が暗く白抜き文字なので、可読性を保ちつつも真っ黒にならずという微妙な色調整をするのが意外と大変でした！この他にも、宇宙に関するQ&Aページでスポットを描いてます。

My map of Jinbo-cho from FRaU, hot off the press! Jinbo-cho is a district well known for loads of second-hand book shops and curry restaurants… and more! Should definitely check these places when I go there next time!
