Still have a couple of published work I haven’t put up here… but today this book is finally out! It’s a quote book on love and marriage, illustrated by me. I did the lettering too, but I did not invent this Japanese-English! Some of the inside illustrations can be seen here.

My print is featured in Good Housekeeping as a suggested Christmas gift. Kind of interesting to see it between a guitar and LEGO! My prints are not signed actually, but other artists’ ones might be.
例のごとく自分では実物未確認シリーズ。イギリスの Good Housekeeping という雑誌のクリスマスギフト特集で、作品のプリントが紹介されました。日本では気軽にアートプリントを買う習慣はないですが、海外では気に入ったアートを買うことは割と普通というところもあります…とても羨ましい土壌です。

I went to a really nice exhibition with my friends, so I’d like to put it up here. The exhibition is by a mother and a daughter (how fantastic!), a jewelry maker and a painter.

My friends have known the daughter, Asami, and I fell in love with her work immediately after I first saw her website so wanted to go to her exhibition, and it is even so much better than her website! I really admire her work, which is just full of freedom, spontaneity, and playfulness. It was really nice to talk to her and hear about the process she takes to create her works (very different from mine!). Go to her website by clicking the photo above.

I think I have missed some important information about my work until now! I found out two of my works are now available as canvas art from Great Big Canvas in the U.S. It looks really nice, but international shipping seems to be expensive so maybe it is for those in the U.S. …

アメリカのGreat Big Canvasというサイトから、私の鎌倉mapがキャンバスプリントとして購入できます（本人が気づいていなかっただけで、結構前から販売されていた模様…（笑））。でも米国外だと送料がかなり高くつくので、実質的にはアメリカ在住の方向けかなという感じです。

I’m really excited to receive this poster today! I created illustration and some hand lettering for Chigasaki Lusca, a shopping mall in a coastal area. They’ve just started the autumn campaign today, and my illustration can be seen in some of their promotional tools. I’ll visit the mall soon to see how my illustration is used inside the building.

The poster is about 100cm tall and unfortunately there is no such big space on my wall, so it ended up on the floor! I also made some illustrations for newspaper insert (I put it here) and small cotton bag.

茅ヶ崎ラスカにて今日から始まる「スタイリッシュ・オータム フェア」のイラストを担当しました。今日ちょうどデザイン会社様からポスターと折込のサンプルが届き、その大きさだけでも我ながらびっくり！普段イラストはせいぜいA3サイズくらいまでが多いので…。

館内や駅からの入口などでもイラストが使われてるそうなので、近々観に行きたいと思います！

A few weeks ago I visited a gallery, object by gallery deux poissons, to see an interesting collaborative exhibition by two artists, a jewelry maker (Kenichi Kondo) and a cookie artist (cookieboy).

The pictures taken with my mobile don’t look nice, but the gallery kindly allowed me to borrow the above photo from their website (tiny rice grains are pierced earrings!). For more pictures of the exhibition, go to their blog.

2〜3週間前になりますが、恵比寿にあるobject by gallery deux poissonsにて、２名のアーティストによる展覧会を観てきました。主に七宝を制作されている近藤健一さんと、クッキーアートを制作されているクッキーボーイさんのお二人のコラボレーション展。素直に美しい作品もあり、ユーモラスな作品もあり、とても楽しかったです。上の写真はギャラリーに許可を得てお借りしました。展覧会は終了していますが、ギャラリーのブログでもいくつか写真が観られますので、ぜひどうぞ！

I’ve already mentioned it on my website, but I thought I would talk a bit more here. This is a mock-up of the book cover I created for a competition. Actually I made it after the entry just to see how it looks like. This kind of classic fiction is likely to be a paperback.

In the competition I had to choose one or more titles from their list. I’ve picked ‘Bonjour Tristesse’ by F. Sagan as I had not read it properly, and I wanted to add some modern look to the existing cover. The existing cover uses a photo but it was a bit out of date (looks like 80s, I think), and not really reflecting the story.

My intention was to show a subtle sadness in a place where everyone is supposed to be happy (summer holiday in French coast).

I entered a couple of other titles too and unfortunately none of them won a prize, but I was shortlisted (I don’t know for which one yet). You can see the winners’ works here. I felt that most are rather abstract and somehow artistic (not particularly design-oriented). But they have different judges each year and it might not be the case next year.

ギャラリー主催の装画コンペに出した作品の一つ。エントリー時はタイトルや著者名を入れることはおろか、もちろんこんな模型を送ることは許されていません…ので、勝手に自分で作ってみました。受賞はしませんでしたが、エントリー作品のどれかは最終選考に残ったようです。
